Ensuring families will enjoy Morey’s fine fish and seafood not just today but for generations to come has been our priority since day one. We manage our commitment to sustainably sourced seafood by working closely with external industry groups and agencies from around the world.

Morey's issued the Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) Chain of Custody certification by the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute.

Recently, we were issued the Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) Chain of Custody certification by the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute. In short, by adding RFM Chain of Custody certification to our stable of certifications means we can verify that the seafood we purchase from Alaska is sourced from an Alaskan ecosystem that has been responsibly developed.

However, becoming certified is no easy task to achieve. In fact, it’s only available to those who have previously passed an audit for the Chain of Custody Standard. Thus far, fewer than 100 companies in the world have been granted RFM certification.

To be considered, a team of assessors from the Accredited Certification Body audited Morey’s locations in Motley, MN and Golden Valley, MN. Both offices participated in a series of steps including reviews and site visits before certification was granted.

DID YOU KNOW… Morey’s Minnesota production facilities and various products are also certified by the following organizations:

-British Retail Consortium (“A” Rating)
-Marine Stewardship Council (Chain of Custody Certification)
-Aquaculture Stewardship Council (Chain of Custody Certification)

We’re also a founding member of The Seafood Nutrition Partnership, an active member of the National Fisheries Institute, a governing member of Global Aquaculture Alliance and are regular contributors to both Ocean Trust and SeaShare. Salmon Products
Salmon Products

Whether it's farm-raised or wild caught salmon, everyone knows that salmon products are among the most delicious of all fish varieties. But attaining quality, highly nutritional salmon is about more than just the fish that has been caught or raised. Bringing out the very best qualities of salmon—a healthy, succulent and decadent seafood high in Omega-3 fatty acids and important for heart, muscle, digestive and brain health—is in large part about the journey it takes, from the depths of the ocean or fresh water farms to your family table.

Water to Plate: Strict Guidelines for Quality Salmon

No matter what your salmon products preference—frozen, smoked, or seasoned—the journey seafood takes is just as important, if not more so, than its destination to make sure that the quality and health benefits remain at the highest levels. That is why numerous government and agricultural entities have created strict processes, guidelines and controls to make sure that salmon products are of the best quality by the time they reach your family.

In their farming stage, fresh salmon need a clean environment to grow. The Aquaculture Certification Council, a nonprofit organization responsible for creating inspection and sanitary controls for any and all sites growing and processing fish, came up with the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP), a series of specific requirements and guidelines to which all farming sites must adhere. In addition, the FDA regulates these sites to ensure quality and clean parameters for salmon to grow.

Once the salmon is ready for processing, plants must follow Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) requirements developed specifically by the FDA to ensure hygienic, hazard-free and healthful food production. This, of course, means that salmon products must be processed in a clean, safe and hygienic environment, following the strictest codes. The U.S. Department of Commerce's Seafood Inspection Program adds even more controls to ensure proper processing of salmon products among others.

After salmon products have been processed and prepared for consumption, shipping regulations under HACCP and the United States are strictly followed to ensure that the imported products are of the highest quality and standards. Salmon products that do not meet wholesomeness, healthy and clean standards are absolutely not accepted.

Finally, the salmon is ready for the retail selling and food service usage. FDA regulations as well as local, state, regional and federal inspection codes regulate the handling of the products before you take them home. Still, it's important that, once you bring salmon products into your kitchen, you also handle them with cleanliness and care to prevent food borne illnesses and diminished quality. You can learn more about this process by reading the AboutSeafood.com brochure available to consumers online.
